HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (June 12, 2017) – 14-year-old Jason Alder will begin the next phase of his career when he tackles Charlotte Motor Speedway tonight in the Young Lions Legends division for the 2017 edition of the Bojangles’ Summer Shootout.
Making the trek from Cooksville, MD, each week will accelerate Alder’s learning curve as he races against some of the best Legends drivers in the country. He will also race regularly at his home track, Shenandoah (MD) Speedway.
“I’m really looking forward to racing in Charlotte for the Shootout this season,” said Alder. “At Shenandoah, all the Legends series race together, so it’s difficult to measure myself against the competition. Now, I’ll be racing with Young Lions only and that will really help me see where I can improve.”
Improvement should come swiftly as Alder will have the tutelage of NASCAR veteran spotter and driver development specialist, Mike Calinoff.
A popular figure in the NASCAR world, Calinoff was most notably the spotter for Matt Kenseth and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr – winning three championships over the course of his 13-year run with both drivers. He also owns 140 BUZZ, a Social Media and Public Relations agency serving the NASCAR community.
Calinoff is confident that Alder will be a quick study.
“I first saw (Jason) at a test in Concord (NC) earlier this year. What I noticed was his ability to adjust his driving style to find the most speed. That’s not typical of a young driver – particularly if they’re new to Legends racing. I’m excited to work with him and be part of his progression in the motorsports arena.”
Jason will be competing with his own car maintained by Tretow Racing, considered to be one of the premier teams in Legends and Bandoleros.
The Bojangles’ Summer Shootout begins tonight and tomorrow on the tricky quarter-mile.
