HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (June 29, 2017) – 14-year-old Jason Alder brought home his first career top-10 on Tuesday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, driving the Tretow Racing No. 77 Legends car in the Young Lions division.
Alder started 26th in the 25-lap main event – which was ultimately shortened by five laps – as a result of a racing incident in the heat race.
At the drop of the green, Alder began his charge to the front by dodging wrecks and executing well-timed passes. The Baltimore, MD driver was one of the few drivers to make the outside groove work and took advantage of that on restarts. He would finish in 9th position.
“I wish the race had gone the full distance,” said Alder. “I feel like we could have gotten a few more spots. Jake Tretow gave me a really fast car and I’m looking forward to the following weeks.”
NASCAR Championship Spotter, Mike Calinoff, who is mentoring Jason was on-hand for the event and was pleased with his performance.
“That was really exciting. Jason did a great job coming from the back” said Calinoff. “I was impressed with the way he made the top (groove) work. Charlotte is a tight track and it’s tough to pass. So tonight was a definite milestone and will set the tone for the remainder of the races. He’s going to be at a point soon where he’ll be ready to win.”
The next Summer Shootout event at Charlotte Motor Speedway is July 4th.
